Aspire Against the Tide

“Aspire Against The Tide” is an innovative response to the pressing issues of climate change and coastal erosion in Jakarta, Indonesia. The holistic plan consists of two fundamental components: the creation of protective levees to shield an impending flood-prone zone, which will be reimagined as a resilient harbor, and the development of adaptable modular houses. These modular houses are engineered with fixed boat hulls to ensure stability while accommodating flexible layouts that can adjust to changing community needs.

The design thoughtfully incorporates durable materials such as polycarbonate for transparent walls, ensuring natural lighting and water resistance, and lightweight steel for structural columns and beams, providing the necessary structural integrity. Sustainability is a guiding principle, with the seamless integration of rainwater collection systems and solar panels to foster self-sufficiency.

Additionally, a central water tower plays a pivotal role as a reliable water supply source while also serving as a vibrant family gathering point. With the central tower as the life support of the house boat, the rest can be customized into different functions according to the residents’ needs. This visionary approach not only seeks to enhance resilience but also to promote sustainability in the face of environmental challenges, offering a promising and transformative solution for Jakarta’s coastal communities.
