Continuous-Discrete

The Taichung MRT is a new transportation system, and the government plans to construct the Blue Line beneath Taiwan Boulevard.

Over the next 20 years, there will be continuous changes in transportation modes. To help people adapt to these changes, I plan to design a transfer area at the City Hall Station, where the Blue Line intersects with the Green Line. This space will not only become a part of people’s daily lives but also serve as a precursor to the future Blue Line.I aim to transform the continuity behind different things into information, intending to employ a deceptive continuity, intertwining different levels of functionality into an inseparable whole.

My design comprises two distinct operation modes. One represents future transportation facilities, including surface transfer stations and an underground subway. Shared resources will enable the amalgamation of different speeds and times based on calculated data. The other mode resembles a cycle in people’s lives, akin to a park plaza or an underground commercial model. It will randomly and flexibly integrate within the station and, through specific timing and behavior, present itself as a unified operation.I aim to hide the public’s routines within this new transportation, like a magic trick. With time, patience is needed for surface impressions to vanish, unveiling true intentions, letting us rediscover the initial discreteness and underlying continuity.
