Sanheyuan Village Modernization: Reorganize Community Space and Housing Unit
The Sanheyuan, structures on three sides of a courtyard forming an inverted U-shape,
is the most common Taiwanese traditional building type. Xinzhuangzi, a historical
village in Taichung comprised of countless Sanheyuans, once was a critical spot for
farming but gradually lost its glamour. Around 80’, a new type of raw housing started
to emerge enormously everywhere in Taiwan that has also fiercely damaged the
context in Xinzhuangzi. The project proposes new community and housing space
prototype that regulates both the traditional and contemporary trends to tune a more
smooth tone along both its past memory and future evolvement.
